Description / Expertise A pair of Victorian silver-mounted carved glass claret jugs. Each on slightly-domed circular silver foot chased with scrolls, flowers and diaper-work, the hinged covers with fruiting finial and mask-cast spout, with scroll-capped handle.

“From the handwriting it is recognised as a design by Frederick Carder and that the work was executed by John Orchard at a cost of 15/-, and an initial selling price of 55/- rising to 64/6.

You will also see that this same design was produced for Faberge in a cased Poppy colour a few years later.This design was the first of a more rugged rock crystal range that was made possible by the invention of a steam driven engraving lathe, by John Northwood”.
